Hackensack Meridian Health

Profile:

Not-for-profit Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) is the largest, most comprehensive healthcare network in New Jersey.

After a period of recent growth, the HMH network now employs more than 8,000 nurses across 17 academic centers, acute-care facilities and research hospitals.

HMH has been honored six times with prestigious Magnet® status by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Challenge

Ensuring consistent nurse education and training across hospitals

Pre-pandemic, HMH set out to standardize policies, procedures, training, competencies and education across all of the sites in its expanding network, enabling 8,000+ nurses to easily transfer between sites.

But as COVID-19 surged, HMH was also tasked with (1) readying nurses for redeployment to frontline-care teams, (2) managing a vaccination mega-site and (3) conducting virtual transition to a practice program for non-licensed nursing graduates. Everything had to happen fast, even as best practices evolved.

It’s better to access the latest, evidence-based procedures from Lippincott rather than depend on policies that are looked at once every few years. After all, a policy that’s looked at infrequently cannot compete with something that’s synthesized frequently — sometimes every quarter — for accuracy against the evidence. There’s no way we could match that. I’m confident that using Lippincott improves outcomes.
