Applications for these licenses are often tedious and require extensive supporting documentation. At the federal level, the manufactured homes industry is regulated by the Department of Housing and Urban Development. However, each state has implemented its own standards which are often more stringent than federal regulations. Furthermore, many local jurisdictions may require an additional permit or inspection prior to the placement of a manufactured home.
In addition to completing an application form and submitting a fee, authorities will require applicants to provide extensive supporting documentation. This generally includes financial statements, proof of examination, course certification, surety bonds, warranty requirements, fingerprints, and/or proof of insurance. To remain in compliance with industry regulations, each business is required to maintain its license by filing either annual or biennial renewals, which, in many cases, will require proof of continuing education.
