ANCC 2018 National Magnet Conference®

In 2017, 475 hospitals across the United States achieved Magnet® status. This designation reflects each organization’s commitment to achieving and maintaining the highest standards of nursing care possible. While this obviously benefits patients, nurses benefit from increased educational opportunities and support for professional development through each stage of their nursing career.

Each year, the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) hosts a national Magnet conference, bringing together nurses from around the country and the world to learn, connect, and grow in their practice. This year, the conference is being held in Denver, Colorado on October 24 – 26. Here’s what you can expect from the 2018 ANCC National Magnet Conference.

Pre-conference events

Thanks to high demand, this year’s conference features four pre-conference events designed to facilitate the achievement of nursing excellence in your organization. In addition to a nurse executive/nurse executive-advanced course and an international forum, pre-conference events center on how your facility can get started on the road to Magnet designation. Also, if your hospital has a transition-to-practice program, you could benefit from a special workshop designed to provide an overview of ANCC’s Practice Transition Accreditation Program™ (PTAP).

General sessions

Open to all attendees, the 2018 general sessions are intended to inspire, educate, and elevate your nursing practice. This year features three keynote speakers, including:

  • Cy Wakeman, MS, CSP: As president of Reality-Based Leadership, Cy Wakeman shows nurse leaders how to transform the nursing workforce into accountable and results-driven healthcare team members.
  • Aron Ralston: The subject of the film 127 Hours, Aron Ralston now travels the country as a motivational speaker. His presentation is intended to highlight how every nurse can achieve greatness in his or her practice.
  • Patch Adams, MD: Thanks to the blockbuster film Patch Adams starring Robin Williams, this doctor’s name is probably one of the most well-known in the world. Dr. Adams will speak about bringing humor to patient care, helping patients achieve better health and helping nurses avoid caregiver burnout.

Concurrent sessions and posters

Beyond the general sessions, attendees are invited to participate in a variety of concurrent sessions. There’s truly something for everyone, from novice nurses to CNOs. Each session is spotlights key nursing information in one of four categories: evidence-based practice, research, nurse leadership, and innovation in nursing practice.

Additionally, almost 150 posters will be available for your review, featuring information on new nursing programs, inventive new clinical techniques, and evidenced-based changes to existing nursing processes.

Celebratory events

The 2018 ANCC National Magnet Conference also features fun activities designed to connect you with peers and celebrate your nursing achievements. The first day of the conference, October 24, features Magnet designation celebration, where winners of the 2018 ANCC Magnet Prize receive special recognition. The celebration is followed by a special welcome party for every conference attendee, giving you the chance to mingle with your peers while sampling some of the best food and drink Colorado has to offer.
