Description
First developed in 1988, Maternity and Infant Care is a bibliographic database of more than 300,000 references covering over 400 English-language journals and other sources. It is a key information resource used by maternity health care professionals and student midwives worldwide to support their research, practice and study requirements.
Compiled by MIDIRS (Midwives Information and Resource Service), Maternity and Infant Care draws together references relating to the midwifery profession, pregnancy, labor, birth, postnatal care and care of the infant up to six weeks, infant feeding, and the transition to parenthood.
Coverage includes not only academic journals and book chapters, but a range of grey literature drawn from information sources not typically well represented in indexing databases but vital for maternity and infant care, such as government publications, clinical guidelines, parliamentary proceedings and news items.
The database also includes details of correspondence and commentary written in response to an article. Many of the records are assigned to one or more of 570 continually updated pre-prepared searches on key topics in order to provide fast retrieval, using either a code or a browsable index of topics.
The full text of all original articles from MIDIRS Midwifery Digest is uploaded to records so users can view articles from every issue of the Digest.
Maternity and Infant Care is now updated weekly, with around 250 new records added each week.
