Chief Information Officer Mark Sherwood talked with Evan Reiser for the Enterprise AI Innovators podcast, featuring exclusive conversations with the world's best technology executives. Mark highlighted how his team is applying AI across internal operations and product development. From automating SOP creation to surfacing risk in contracts and predicting IT incidents, each project starts with a specific business challenge and ends with a measurable impact. Wolters Kluwer now sees over half of its revenue from AI-enabled products, a result of decades of domain expertise paired with rapid experimentation. Listen to the podcast here on Spotify. Can you share more about Wolters Kluwer — its scale and the real scope of its global impact?
The goal is really about providing content and subject matter expertise to professionals —healthcare, legal, tax and accounting professionals. We make sure they always have the most accurate data available, literally at their fingertips. What’s happened is that technology now enables better access to that data. We have a tremendous amount of subject matter expertise on staff, and we’re building AI capabilities into every product we offer. More than 50% of our revenue now comes from AI-enabled products. The aim is to help users get the exact information they need — quickly and accurately.

Where are we on the spectrum with AI?
I still think we're just starting to scratch the surface. There was at first sort of basic usage of AI, and now we're building out agents and then having this sort of orchestration of agents together where they're taking on an entire workflows in the process. I think it's important to have it be viewed as it is not a solution in search of a problem, but then it's there and you can leverage it to address whatever problems, issues, challenges, worries you may have. The power and the capabilities are like almost unbelievable to me at this point.

Name one example how AI makes Wolters Kluwer realize more efficient workflows.
Sure, basically, as incidents come up, we build what we call an SOP—standard operating procedure—for support engineers to follow. We’ve now leveraged AI to take all those incidents and build an SOP automatically, which used to take 1 or 2 people 2 or 3 weeks. Now it takes 15 minutes worst case, probably two minutes best case, to pull the information and build a step-by-step procedure that identifies the problem, the solution, and how to prevent it next time.

How do you think a company should measure success of the CIO?
Value back to the business, measurable value, back to the business!
