The HLTH 2025 conference in Las Vegas gathered solution innovators and leaders from all areas of healthcare to explore the most pressing issues at the intersection of care delivery and technology advancement. It was an opportunity for professionals with varying interests, viewpoints, and areas of specialty to learn about each other’s successes and pain points to help inspire and define goals for the coming year in healthcare.
Trust and transparency drive innovation at HLTH 2025

For Wolters Kluwer, inspiration driven by trust was the story of 2025. We built our solution advancements around the notion that healthcare technology should not ask you to compromise on evidence and integrity. Our product introductions – and upcoming roadmap – showcase innovations anchored in trusted clinical information from our UpToDate® and Medi-Span® solution suites and by transparency. At HLTH, we were proud to debut new solutions and to help colleagues get to know the experts who stand behind their trusted information.
Clinicians’ perspective on AI in healthcare
Hot on the heels of the launch of UpToDate® Expert AI generative AI-powered clinical decision support (CDS) solution, Holden K. Groves, MD, an anesthesiologist at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, and Amanda Heidemann, MD, FAAFP, FAMIA, Senior Clinical Content Consultant at Wolters Kluwer Health, took the stage at HLTH to discuss “Why Compromise on Trust? AI in Healthcare.”
Groves and Heidemann looked at the value AI can bring to an increasingly complex clinical ecosystem, provided healthcare systems are choosing tools developed for and by clinicians.
“Using generative AI doesn't have to mean picking reliability, speed, or privacy,” Heidemann said.
She described how the expertise of UpToDate’s 7,600 editors was used to help develop the UpToDate Expert AI workflow and augment clinical reasoning. Groves discussed his role in helping test the tool to build a clinician-driven, trusted solution that works in practical clinical situations and is built for the future.
That commitment to clinician trust caught the attention of leading research and advisory firm Outsell, Inc., which after an evaluation of UpToDate Expert AI, reported: “Wolters Kluwer’s UpToDate Expert AI raises the bar for clinical decision support, delivering trusted, transparent AI in real workflows.” The report also praised the tool as “trusted, evidence-based content paired with explainability and seamless workflow” that “shows its logic, assumptions, and evidence, making it audit-ready and suitable for compliance.”
From friction to flow with embedded clinical intelligence
At HLTH, Wolters Kluwer also debuted UpToDate® Connect, a powerful API solution that enables integration of trusted, evidence-based medical content from UpToDate into digital health platforms and EHR workflows.
This embedded CDS solution integrates trusted UpToDate resources directly into a healthcare platform’s workflow, delivering a seamless experience that saves time, builds confidence, and keeps clinicians in that platform. There’s no need for them to open additional screens and split focus. By providing clinical support that aligns with a specific context within a user’s workflow, UpToDate Connect also adds depth and relevance to a platform, driving better platform adoption and helping reduce clinician burnout.
“UpToDate Connect bridges the gap between technology and care delivery by embedding evidence-based clinical content directly into digital health platforms," said Christopher Sullivan, Vice President and General Manager, Pharmacy and Health Technology Solutions, Wolters Kluwer Health. “By enabling tech companies to embed UpToDate, we are empowering them to create seamless, intuitive experiences that let them stand out in a competitive market by delivering exceptional value to their users.”
Embedding proven, trustworthy CDS from UpToDate also reduces the burden on developers. When a CDS solution’s clinical content is maintained by trusted experts, developers don’t have to worry about tracking and synthesizing the latest evidence, building new content, or managing manual content updates. That reduces engineering lift and shortens go-live timelines.
The future pharmacy is community-focused
The retail pharmacy industry is facing some of its greatest challenges in decades. But at the same time, the pharmacy is viewed by patients and consumers as an accessible and trusted care provider, presenting the opportunity for the industry to reimagine itself not as medication-focused business, but as a community care center.
Wolters Kluwer industry experts were at HLTH to discuss how the future-focused pharmacy can overcome the inherent challenges of burnout and consumer demands not by contracting its services, but by evolving, embracing new care models like value-based care, and expanding pharmacy services to offer more community-centric clinical, wellness, and consumer engagement programming. By collaborating with other community health and wellness organizations and adopting technology that streamlines workflows, drives evidence-based patient recommendations, and aligns with community partners to improve interoperability and information exchange, pharmacies can position themselves for success.
Announcing the UpToDate vision
In an era of rapid technological advancements and evolving patient and clinician needs, health systems require a partner they can rely on.
For over 30 years, clinicians and healthcare leaders have trusted UpToDate to guide them through even the most challenging cases. AT HLTH, we reaffirmed our commitment to be the trusted partner health systems need and announced a vision for UpToDate going forward as care evolves, technology progresses, and capabilities expand.
The UpToDate vision is centered on working with industry and solution partners around four key pillars:
- Supporting fast clinical decisions.
- Achieving patient care efficiencies.
- Unifying journeys for clinicians and patients.
- Enabling smarter use of resources and ROI.
Moving forward with this vision in mind, Wolters Kluwer and UpToDate are excited to continue innovating responsible AI and workflow-integrated solutions to help further healthcare goals and contribute to meaningful transformations for our customers, colleagues, and partners. But as we continue to innovate and work with industry partners to create the most effective solutions to help improve care delivery and enhance both professional and patient experience, we will always prioritize information rooted in trust, evidence, and transparency. It isn’t just about getting the information in front of you at the point of care, it’s about who is standing behind it.
