How PHE Subholding Upstream Strengthens Operational Risk Management with BowTieXP Enterprise

In upstream oil and gas operations, identifying hazards is essential. However, ensuring visibility into major accident scenarios and the status of critical barriers across the organization is what drives effective risk management.

PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE), a subsidiary of Indonesia’s state-owned PT Pertamina, manages upstream oil and gas activities across Indonesia and offshore locations. Like many oil and gas operators, PHE manages high-risk scenarios such as loss of primary containment and fires. While HAZOP studies and risk assessments were comprehensive, they were often complex for operators and management to interpret in isolation.

The Solution: Consolidation and Clear Escalation

By implementing BowTieXP Enterprise, PHE consolidated major accident hazard scenarios into structured bowtie visualizations and gained visibility into hazard registers and barrier status across operations. The result was immediate clarity. Thousands of major accident hazard scenarios requiring follow-up or escalation were identified and prioritized.
