Supporting a single pane of glass strategy
The proliferation of healthcare AI has made clinical evidence and guidance available across a variety of first-party and third-party applications, ranging from mobile devices and ambient tools, to EHRs and patient portals. This has only expanded the number of places a clinician may need to look for trusted clinical information, while simultaneously creating additional steps to navigate and evaluate the content they receive through these applications. As the number of surfaces and applications increase, a new need is arising: a single pane of glass that supports clinicians with the trusted information they need to provide the most informed care decisions for their patients.
A recent survey found that when it comes to evaluating AI tools, more than 50% of clinicians said their top priority is that the tool is built by a trusted medical resource rather than a general technology company. This was closely followed by the importance of it working seamlessly within their existing workflow (49%).
Those data points expose the important interplay of trust and deep integration when it comes to purpose-built health AI. Our collaboration with Epic delivers both. Epic focuses solely on healthcare, and their EHR is trusted by clinicians to help care for more than 280 million Americans, and a strong majority of those already trust and rely on UpToDate for clinical decision support.

In the future, health systems with an enterprise UpToDate license will be able to incorporate our trusted, evidence-based clinical content into their homegrown applications and healthcare organizations’ existing workflows built natively within Epic’s platform.
