New AI Solution Boosts Efficiency and Knowledge Retention in the Environmental Sector
Alphen aan den Rijn/Mechelen, May 4, 2026 – Wolters Kluwer today launches the Schulinck AI-Desk Environmental Law in Flanders, an innovative AI solution that supports local governments with complex legal issues surrounding environmental law. This tool is integrated into the existing Schulinck Environmental Law database, which is already used by more than half of Flemish cities and municipalities.
With Schulinck AI-Desk Environmental Law, environmental officials can quickly and accurately obtain legal advice based on current legislation, case law, and municipal policy. The tool exclusively consults all reliable sources within the Schulinck database, which also includes the municipal policy of that specific municipality. The AI technology ensures that employees work more efficiently and that crucial knowledge remains widely accessible within the team. This is of great importance given the increasing pressure on local environmental services, as evidenced by various reports from Audit Vlaanderen on vulnerable staffing capacity and knowledge retention.
The AI-Desk was extensively tested in collaboration with Flemish cities and municipalities. Their feedback led to further refinement of the application, resulting in a user-friendly and legally sound solution that can be immediately applied to specific cases. Wolters Kluwer’s Expert AI technology combines the latest innovations with reliable, expert-curated content and guarantees privacy by design, ensuring that user data remains strictly protected.
“Local governments are facing increasing legalization and higher expectations, while available capacity is under pressure,” says Rogier Rijkers, director of Wolters Kluwer Schulinck. “With Schulinck AI-Desk Environmental Law, we support environmental officials in their complex work, providing reliable answers tailored to Flemish regulations and municipal policy.”
With the introduction of Schulinck AI-Desk Environmental Law, Wolters Kluwer reaffirms its position as a partner to the public sector and contributes to continuity, efficiency, and knowledge retention within the environmental domain.
