EBP and QI excellence and innovation: Using technology to streamline project management for Magnet designation

Recorded November 29, 2022 | 1 hour
Online
Despite the vast amount of research available to improve healthcare delivery, the majority of care that is delivered is not evidence-based. Challenges with Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) and Quality Improvement (QI) include lack of experience, time pressures, insufficient resources, availability of mentors, and organizational support.

Healthcare leader challenges include lack of a clear view of all EBP and QI projects oftentimes resulting in duplication of efforts, and limited spread of practices shown to be effective.

This webinar demonstrated how the innovative use of technology can provide step-by-step guidance from problem identification with a PICO question through project completion and dissemination, resulting in increased efficiency and effectiveness with DNP, Capstone, new-to-practice Residency projects, EBP fellowship programs, and healthcare organization EBP and QI initiatives.

There was a demonstration of how the Portland VA is using Ovid® Synthesis to inspire a spirit of inquiry, empower nurses, drive practice improvements through EBP and QI, and streamline the required reporting for stories to support Magnet® designation.

Learning outcomes include:
  1. Describing the challenges with current EBP and QI processes and how this hinders provision of quality patient care
  2. Identifying opportunities to improve quality improvement and evidence-based practice processes and outcomes
