Interview – Proactive Risk Management and COVID-19

As you might know, Wolters Kluwer’s Enablon, eVision and CGE Risk Management Solutions are helping customers manage the COVID-19 risks and impacts. With the aim to help them respond to the COVID-19 pandemic and future crises. Helpful tools such as free new features, special templates, and configuration packages, based on guidelines published by The World Health Organization (WHO) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) were made available.

Jean-Grégoire Manoukian, Content Thought Leader at Enablon, interviewed CGE’s Product Manager Bob van Riek. Diving deeper into the matter, Jean-Grégoire and Bob had an interesting conversation about proactive risk management and COVID-19. In the run-up to this conversation, Product Manager Bob van Riek also discussed the topic with Prof. dr. Jop Groeneweg, one of the top ten leaders in the field of risk management & safety, which led to a valuable contribution to this conversation.

One of the questions asked is about the hot topic many risk professionals are debating: is COVID-19 a Black Swan, yes or no? By looking at the characteristics of a Black Swan as formulated by Nassim Taleb who came up with the concept, Bob examined if COVID-19 meets the criteria. Other topics that came up were CGE’s COVID-19 bowtie template, escalation factors and updating bowties. Also, the future of risk management programs is discussed.
