Using benchmarking data to improve your Antimicrobial Stewardship program

Submitting Antimicrobial Stewardship utilization data is being recommended to help hospitals track antibiotic use. Learn how leveraging metrics can improve Antimicrobial Stewardship programs (ASP).

A pharmacist's expertise is recognized as essential to the success of any ASP.  One way they can get access to more meaningful insights is by submitting antimicrobial utilization data to NHSN, which is recommended to help hospitals track their antibiotic use, what we commonly called AU submission. By doing so, you contribute to NHSN’s effort in understanding how to manage antimicrobial use and resistance nationally.  From the hospital’s perspective, you benefit from getting benchmarking data back in the form of a metric called standardized antimicrobial administration ratio (SAAR).
