Stay Ahead of Public CBC Reporting Obligations

The Public Country-by-Country (CBC) Reporting regime, introduced by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), marks a significant shift in tax transparency for multinational enterprises (MNEs). Under this new requirement, certain MNEs must publicly disclose key tax information – a move aimed at increasing corporate accountability.

Who’s in scope?

MNEs classified as Significant Global Entities (SGEs) with:

  • Global revenue exceeding $1 billion, and
  • Australian-sourced revenue of $10 million or more

Key dates to know:

  • The regime applies to reporting periods starting on or after 1 July 2024
  • First lodgments are due by 30 June 2026, following the end of FY25
  • Groups have 12 months from the end of the reporting period to lodge with the ATO

Why it matters:

Non-compliance can result in penalties of up to $825,000. With the ATO adopting a stricter stance on late lodgments and declining extensions or penalty waivers, MNEs must act now to ensure readiness.
