Test Library

The TeamMate Analytics test library includes 200 audit tests, fully documented to help you find analytics that you can apply to your audits and build your Audit Program. The tests cover a wide variety of areas, including expenses, HR, Journals and FCPA. The tests explain how to perform the tests, when any why you might use them and how to interpret the results. Most of the tests also include custom modules that you can run directly from the Test Library making performing the tests extremely simple.

Advanced users can also write their own tests, attach modules and add them to the test library, then share them with colleagues.

Data Preparation

TeamMate Analytics includes a variety of tools for preparing your data before commencing analysis.

Import Wizard allows you to convert print reports, PDFs and text files into Excel ready for analysis, including extracting information in headers, footers, subtotals, and so on, so every data field gets captured. You can save your import templates and share them with colleagues to make importing poorly formatted reports simple and repeatable.

Manipulate Fields includes 36 tools for tweaking your data to get it ready for analysis, for example, removing spaces, splitting or combining fields or splitting out debits and credits. The Normalize fields tool standardizes words and is useful for things like addresses – converting St, Str, Strt all to Street, stripping out symbols and punctuation and so on.

Sheet Checker reviews your data for problems like blank rows, totals, protected worksheets, PivotTables, etc. and removes them for you. Sheet Checker runs before each data analysis tool to ensure your data is clean.

Other simple tools include creating work paper headers, adding tick marks, managing project details, converting formulas to values, converting PivotTables, removing unnecessary formatting and a Global Find and Replace tool for searching within open workbooks or whole folders.

Custom Modules

Our unique Custom Modules allow you to run a batch of multiple tests all in one go, on a single report. They make continuous auditing a breeze, allowing you to perform the same tests each time with just a couple of button clicks. For larger audit teams, Custom Modules can be used to share best practice tests amongst the team members.

TeamMate Analytics includes a selection of pre-built custom modules for auditing T&E Expenses, Inventory, General Ledger Journals, Fixed Assets, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll and HR. Each module contains many tests designed specifically for that audit area. You can use them as they are or modify them, using them as the basis for your own modules.

You can also build modules from scratch, combining and customizing the 30 test building blocks graphically without any need for scripting. These building blocks cover similar areas to the Data Analysis tests below. Furthermore, use Transaction Scoring to take the outputs of all your tests and rank your riskiest transactions. Data visualization is a key component of and often extremely valuable way to communicate your data analysis. Custom Modules can produce a variety of charts and dashboards of multiple charts.

Data Analysis

You can also run tests individually. TeamMate Analytics has a comprehensive suite of tools for analyzing your data.

Column Statistics produces a detailed report on the data in each of your columns, including whether the cells are text, numeric, dates or blank, calculating totals and ranges on numbers and dates. It is worthwhile running this tool on every report you use to validate it for completeness and ensure each column contains appropriate data.

Visualize

Quick Visualizer allows you to step through each column in your data and gives you a representation of its contents in graphical form. It automatically adjusts the chart to best present the data in each column. This is a great way of getting a high-level understanding of your data and can help you spot anomalies and areas you might wish to consider further. You can also run it on the outputs of other tools, to give you a visual representation of the results which can help you interpret them.

Advanced Visualizer gives you many more options to help you to explore your data and results graphically, and prepare more customized charts to communicate your findings.

Manipulate Worksheets

Join 2 Sheets joins two sheets together, based on common matching columns – this may seem simple, but it literally has hundreds of applications and is one of the most used tools for many users.

Append Sheets joins multiple sheets that all have the same column structure together. For example, where you have separate reports for each sales person, each warehouse, etc. that you wish to combine into one report.

Ledger Split breaks a report into several worksheets based on the values in a column. For example, it can split an inventory listing into a separate tab for each warehouse.

Highlight Changes compares two versions of a worksheet or workbook and highlights and summarizes any differences either between formulas or values.

Sheet Index simply adds an index worksheet with a summary of the worksheets in the workbook and clickable hyperlinks to each one. This is a great way to make navigating huge workbooks easier.

Summarize

Quick Summary quickly and simply summarizes your data based on a selected column

Advanced Summary summarizes your data with a variety of additional options, including grouping and cross-tabulating.

Aging summarizes data containing dates into bands. You can age dates against a fixed date (such as the year-end) or another date column to find the differences between them.

Heat Matrix summarizes your data and then colors it to help you visualize hot spots (areas with higher or lower values).

Stratify splits data into bands containing ranges of values and enables you to select random samples from each band.

Lead Schedules creates file-ready lead schedules based on a trial balance – summarizing and grouping accounts into groups for easy reconciliation to financial statements and audit work.

Extract

Exception Report extracts any records that meet the criteria you specify. You can combine up to 3 criteria, and compare against fixed values, columns or lists of dates or times.

Duplicates extracts duplicate records, based on whole rows or up to 6 fields you specify. You can also do a same, same, different test looking for instances where up to 6 columns are duplicated but one is different.

Gaps looks for missing items in a sequence of numbers or partly numeric references, such as missing checks or journals.

Words and Phrases searches a worksheet or range for any number of words or phrases you specify, such as “suspense”, “rainy day”, “unknown”, etc. It can also use values from a stored list in options or values from a range in a worksheet.

Top and Bottom simply extracts the largest and smallest X records from your data.

Out of Mask extracts records where a field does not match a pre-defined format, such as bank account or social security numbers.

Sequential Invoices identifies any instances where a vendor has issued multiple invoices with sequential references.

Numeric Analysis

Benford’s Testing performs digital analysis to identify unusual patterns in data – includes 1st, 2nd, 3rd and first 2-digit tests and various options to assess the significance of variances.

Outliers extracts records where the amount significantly deviates from the mean.

Number Analysis extracts any records which have a rounded amount, e.g. to 100,000, values ending in ’999' or zero values.

Analytical Review compares two columns of numbers and calculates the absolute and percentage differences between them.

Number Checker compares two columns of numbers and looks for any possible missing digits or transposition errors between them.

Regression Analysis compares 2 to 4 columns to investigate correlation, look for outliers or predict future values (predictive analytics) using linear regression.

Formula

Formula makes it easy to apply repetitive or complex formulas to your data. You can create and share your own formulas, and the tool includes formulas for common ratios, extremely useful for analytical reviews.

Sampling

Monetary Unit Sample estimates, extracts and evaluates a statistically selected sample from your data.

Random Sample extracts several randomly sampled items from your data.

Systematic Sample extracts every ‘nth’ item from your data.

Stratified Sample splits your data into bands based on a numeric or date column, and selects a random sample from each band.

Attributes Sample calculates a sample size based on methodologies published by the IIA and AICPA then extracts the samples using Random or Systematic methods. You can also evaluate the results of the tested samples.

Other Tools / Features

Multi Drill Down allows you to perform a “Show Detail” on multiple cells in a pivot table at the same time, either exporting the results to separate sheets, or to a single sheet.

Double Click to Sort enables you to easily sort your data by double clicking in row 1 of the column – this can be turned off in the options

Quick Stats provides statistics about the selected cells on the right click menu. Selecting a statistic stores the value to the clipboard, so you can easily paste it to another cell or even another document/program.

Quick Filter and Quick Extract allow you to quickly filter out or extract items matching selected cells.
