Access & Availability
  • Will these AI features remain free in the long term?
    The AI Q&A, AI Chat, and AI Summarisation features are core components of our CCH iKnowConnect tax and legal research platform. While there are currently no plans to charge for these capabilities, future pricing decisions may evolve. If a fee is ever introduced, organisations will always have the option to opt out of AI features.
  • How do I get access to the CCH iKnowConnect AI features?

    The AI features described above are enabled by default, so you can start using them right away—no setup required upon Sept 2025 launch. If your organisation prefers to opt out, your CCH iKnowConnect administrator can contact support to manage access settings. Your organisation can choose to opt out permanently or temporarily, please contact support to manage your access settings.

  • Can I opt out of AI temporarily or permanently?

    Yes. All existing CCH iKnowConnect customers were able to opt-out of the AI features by 31 August, 2025. 

    If you missed the deadline, you can still opt out by contacting Customer Support.
     
    You’re free to opt back in at any time—just reach out to Customer Support when you're ready.

  • Why might I get a different answer to the same question?
    CCH iKnowConnect AI generates responses dynamically based on the context of your current session. This means the AI considers your previous questions, follow-ups, and the specific way a query is phrased. Starting a new chat (conversation) for a new topic helps ensure the most accurate and relevant response, free from earlier context.
  • How does the AI guard against hallucinations?
    By using RAG, the AI retrieves real documents and generates answers based on them. This reduces the risk of fabricated or inaccurate information. Citations are included for transparency.
  • Do users need to verify AI-generated responses?
    Yes. While the AI provides citations and footnotes, users should always verify sources and consult referenced materials before making decisions.
  • What structured validation processes do your data scientists and engineers use to ensure the AI consistently delivers accurate and relevant answers?
    Our data scientists and engineers apply a structured and continuous validation process to optimise our retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) model for relevance and accuracy. Baseline performance is established using gold-standard datasets curated collaboratively by AI systems and human experts. We conduct ongoing testing across diverse scenarios to refine retrieval quality, with progress tracked using industry-standard metrics such as nDCG, recall, and precision, alongside our internal RCS benchmark. This rigorous approach ensures consistent performance monitoring and continuous improvement.

    Client feedback is actively incorporated through mechanisms such as the like/dislike feedback loop. Flagged responses are reviewed by subject matter experts, who may create gold-standard answers to feed back into the retreival validation process.   • What content is the AI based on, and what is included in the experience?

    The AI is grounded in CCH iKnowConnect content and tailored to your organisation’s subscription.

    It leverages our proprietary content and is enriched by access to primary source materials, including legislation, case law, and regulatory resources. These are provided as freemium content to all iKnowConnect subscribers.

    All content is securely hosted within CCH iKnowConnect — the AI does not access or rely on external sources.

  • What types of content are excluded from AI responses?

    The following content is excluded to ensure responses remain current, relevant, and aligned with your subscription:

    • Archive content (to maintain relevance)
    • Bills (proposed legislation)
    • News older than 6 months
    • ATO edited private advice prior to 2020
    • External linked files (e.g. PDFs, Excel, Word, Smart Charts)

  • Can I upload my own documents for summarisation?
    Summarisation is currently limited to CCH iKnowConnect content only. If document upload functionality is introduced in the future, your organisation will have the option to opt out of this feature.

  • Can I narrow responses by jurisdiction?
    Yes. CCH iKnowConnect AI automatically tailors responses to your jurisdiction based on your subscription settings and the region you're viewing within the platform. For added precision, you can also specify a jurisdiction directly in your prompt.
  • How is searching with AI different from traditional methods?
    Unlike Boolean or natural language searches, CCH iKnowConnect AI understands context and intent. It retrieves relevant chunks from documents and generates answers based on them, reducing the need to sift through multiple results manually.
  • How many questions can I ask?
    You can ask as many questions as you like—there’s no limit. Tip: When using the chat or follow-up chat feature in CCH iKnowConnect AI, always start a new chat for a new topic. This ensures the AI doesn’t carry over context from previous questions, helping you get more accurate and relevant responses.
  • How is CCH iKnowConnect AI different from general-purpose AI like ChatGPT?

    CCH iKnowConnect AI is purpose-built for legal, tax, and accounting professionals. Unlike general-purpose models, it:

You can upload documents, pin answers and key content, and arrange them into a coherent board—ideal for compiling outputs like reports or client communications. The Pinboard also enables conversational interaction with your collected materials, allowing for deeper exploration and clarification. (Subscription required)
Privacy, Security & Governance
  • How long are my conversations stored?

    Conversation history is saved to your account and persists across sessions, allowing you to revisit and build on previous queries. You have full control over your history and can delete individual queries at any time. Session logs are purged every 30 days.

    Note: Conversation history is not available for anonymous users.

  • How does CCH iKnowConnect AI ensure data privacy?
    • Customer data is not used to train AI models.
    • Protected data detection and redaction capabilities automatically remove sensitive information. However, are prohibitied not to include personal or confidential data when interacting with the AI.

    Further specific security and privacy information can be provided upon request.

  • Will my prompts be used to train the model?
    No. Your interactions are used solely to generate responses and improve the experience. They are not used to train or fine-tune the underlying AI models.

    Yes, the SOC 2 Type T1 audit report is available to customers and prospects, provided a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) is in place. For access or further information, please contact your Customer Success Manager.

    Before launch, Wolters Kluwer AI products undergo security, privacy, technical, and legal assessments to confirm compliance with Wolters Kluwer polices.
