LSI Taxation & Business Advisors gain flexibility through an integrated cloud-based practice

A Connected Practice. Anywhere Work Happens.

How Glenn Dunne and Nick Morales use CCH iFirm to streamline compliance, improve collaboration, and deliver personalised client service from anywhere.

Founded almost a decade ago, LSI Taxation & Business Advisors takes a highly personalised approach to accounting and business advisory services. Led by Managing Partners Glenn Dunne and Nick Morales, the firm focuses primarily on business clients, providing taxation, compliance and advisory services built on strong client relationships.

Unlike many firms, the team regularly visits clients on-site, allowing them to better understand each business and provide more tailored advice.

Operating from separate home offices, Glenn and Nick have intentionally built a practice that prioritises flexibility, client service and work-life balance.

"We're happy doing our own thing," says Glenn. "If clients want to talk to someone, they're talking directly to me or Nick."

  • Faster workflow and document processing

The challenge: maintaining a personalised service model while working remotely

As the practice evolved, Glenn and Nick needed technology that could support the way they wanted to work.

Their previous software was desktop-based and required the firm to manage separate databases, making collaboration more difficult and limiting access to information when working away from the office.

Because we were both working in different places, we effectively had two databases. It was difficult when one of us needed information relating to the other person's clients.

For a firm whose directors spend significant time meeting clients at their premises and working from different locations, cloud accessibility became a priority.

"We wanted something online, as it meant we could complete work from anywhere and not fall behind. That was really the big driver."

The solution: an integrated CCH ecosystem

LSI Taxation & Business Advisors implemented CCH iFirm and gradually expanded its use of the broader CCH ecosystem, including Workpapers, Client Portal, Signatures and research solution CCH iKnowConnect.

The move provided the firm with a single connected platform for managing client information, tax compliance, document management, research and collaboration.

According to Glenn, one of the greatest advantages of the platform is the ability to access everything from anywhere.

Earlier this year, Glenn spent five weeks travelling through Canada and Alaska. Despite being on the other side of the world, he was still able to access client information and respond to urgent matters when required.

I took my laptop with me and could access anything I needed. That's what we were after – something that we could use wherever we were.

Driving efficiency without sacrificing client relationships

While flexibility was the initial attraction, the firm has also experienced significant efficiency gains over time.

Glenn highlights electronic signatures, secure document sharing and data integrations as some of the most valuable improvements.

Electronic signatures were a big thing for us. Clients can sign electronically, everything is stored on file, and both the client and the practice always have access to a copy.

The secure client portal has also helped the firm move away from emailing sensitive information while supporting growing compliance and security expectations.

Workpapers has also delivered further efficiencies by reducing manual data entry and helping automate information gathering from the ATO and general ledger systems.

I love the Workpapers. You push a button and the information comes in. It makes life easy.

"As the system has evolved, importing data into tax returns and workpapers has significantly sped up our processes. I can complete a set of accounts very quickly compared to how we used to work."

Supporting the firm's long-term vision

Unlike firms pursuing aggressive expansion, LSI Taxation & Business Advisors has intentionally focused on maintaining a manageable client base while delivering a high level of personal service.

For Glenn, the right technology isn't about replacing people; it's about removing unnecessary administration so he can spend more time focusing on clients.

"The flexibility is the big thing," he says. "It gives us the ability to work when and where we need to, while still looking after our clients."

Looking ahead

As automation continues to evolve within the accounting profession, Glenn believes there are further opportunities to streamline administrative processes and reduce manual tasks.

However, the core benefit of the platform remains the same: helping the firm work efficiently while maintaining the personalised approach its clients value.

The whole system works very well for us, and it just keeps getting better and better.
