The Hon. Diana Bryant: From 1977 to 1990, Chief Justice Bryant was a partner with the firm of Phillips Fox in Perth where she practiced as a solicitor and counsel specialising in family law. From May 2000 she was the inaugural Chief Federal Magistrate of Australia, the head of the Federal Magistrates’ Court, thus being the first woman appointed to the position. Prior to her appointment, Chief Justice Bryant had practiced at the Victorian Bar from 1990 where she specialised in family law and de facto property disputes, particularly at the appellate level. She was appointed a Queen’s Counsel in 1997 and was a founding member of Chancery Chambers, Melbourne. Her Honour has long been committed to advocating on behalf of women in the legal profession, having been a founding member of the Women Lawyers Association of Western Australia. In February 2009 Chief Justice Bryant was appointed Patron of Australian Women Lawyers, after founding Patron Mary Gaudron QC, in recognition of her support for women lawyers and efforts to promote equality of opportunity for women in the community. From May 2000 she was the inaugural Chief Federal Magistrate of Australia, the head of the Federal Magistrates’ Court, thus being the first woman appointed to the position. Chief Justice Bryant retired as Chief Justice of the Family Court of Australia on 12 October 2017.

Jacqueline Campbell is Partner at Forte Family Lawyers, a leading specialist family law firm in Melbourne. Jacqueline has been recognised as a leading family lawyer by Doyle’s Guide, is a Fellow of the International Academy of Family Lawyers, a board member of the Asia Pacific Chapter of that Academy and an Associate of the American Bar Association. She is also a member of the Maintenance and Property Committee of the Family Law Section of the Law Institute of Victoria, the Family Law Section of the Law Council of Australia and Victorian Women Lawyers. Jacqueline is a consultant editor and contributing author of Australian Family Law and Practice. She also writes several chapters of Australian Master Family Law Guide and the Australian Master Superannuation Guide.

Dr Renata Alexander was admitted to practice in Victoria in 1979. She has practised exclusively in family law specialising in family violence, child abuse, children’s matters and separate representation of children. From 1980 to 1997 she was an in-house family law solicitor and accredited specialist with Victoria Legal Aid in Melbourne; from 1997 to 2002 she was a deputy registrar with the Family Court of Australia in Melbourne and since November 2002 she has been a member of the Victorian Bar. Dr Alexander has also pursued post-graduate studies and an academic career. She has a Master of Laws by thesis from Monash University (on domestic violence) and obtained a PhD in law from Monash University in 2001 with her thesis ‘‘Reflections on gender in family law decision making in Australia’’. Dr Alexander has been a senior lecturer with the Faculty of Law at Monash University teaching family law and practical skills since 2000. She has written/co-written four books on family law and family violence, and numerous book chapters and articles.
