After graduating from his undergraduate degree, Stephen Marsden worked for several years as a senior accountant and management consultant with KPMG. Stephen left KPMG to pursue an academic career, and has been a full-time lecturer employed in the QUT Business School where he is responsible for lecturing and tutoring a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate financial accounting and taxation law subjects.

Stephen has also written several books on bookkeeping, accounting and taxation, many of which are used by students across a number of Australian Universities and by accounting professionals throughout Australia and New Zealand. Stephen also has more than 20 academic publications.

Stephen has a Master of Business and is a Member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ), CPA Australia, the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) and is a Fellow of The Taxation Institute of Australia (TIA).

Outside of QUT, Stephen has presented numerous professional development seminars and workshops for various professional bodies, including CPA Australia, CAANZ and AICD as well as large and small accounting firms, listed companies, nonprofit organisations, charities, multinationals and government departments.

He is also actively involved with the two major accounting professional bodies, being CAANZ and CPA Australia having sat on many committees, writing course materials for their respective professional programs and presenting workshops and acting as a focus session facilitator.

Stephen is also a registered tax agent and provides specialised accounting and taxation advice to a range of clients in both the public, private and non-profit sectors. He also conducts audits for several small Queensland-based charities registered with the ACNC.

Stephen’s board positions over the years have included Ronald McDonald House, The Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital Research Foundation and Uni Credit Ltd.
