Irsyad Tariq is a Revenue Legal Counsel with extensive experience in Malaysian tax law, specialising in tax litigation, legislative drafting, tax policy, tax advisory, criminal tax investigations, and tax prosecutions. Throughout his career with the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (IRBM), he has served across several specialist divisions, including the Tax Litigation Division, where he handled appeals before the Special Commissioners of Income Tax (SCIT), the Drafting and Advisory Division, and the Criminal Investigation Division. He is actively involved in prosecuting offences under Malaysia's revenue and Anti-Money Laundering laws, providing him with practical insight into the investigation, enforcement and prosecution of complex tax offences.
Drawing upon his experience in both contentious and non-contentious tax matters, Irsyad regularly writes on developments in Malaysian taxation, with a particular focus on tax policy, investment incentives, tax administration, international taxation and tax enforcement. His commentary seeks to bridge legislative developments with their practical implications for taxpayers, businesses and professional advisers.
He is the author of Taxation and Ethics in Malaysia, for which the Honourable Prime Minister of Malaysia and the former Chief Justice of Malaysia contributed the forewords. He is also a regular contributor to Wolters Kluwer CCH Expert Insights and a frequent speaker at national and international tax conferences, where he shares practical insights on contemporary developments in Malaysian tax law and administration.
