Register for an account

By registering for an UpToDate account, you can download the mobile app, earn CME and get remote access to UpToDate. The registration process is quick and easy, and you only need to do it once.

    How to register via EHR or intranet

    Please check with your organization to see if you have access to UpToDate within your EHR or intranet. Registration/Sign In through the EHR is a one-time process and you will be automatically signed into UpToDate and identified moving forward when you access UpToDate through this method.

    1. Log in to your EHR
    2. Locate UpToDate within your EHR
    3. The first time you access UpToDate through your EHR, you will be brought to the Registration page. If you don’t see the Registration page, please click the “CME” link at the top of the navigation. Once you are on the registration page, you will have two options: Complete your registration for a new account or Merge your new account with an existing account.

    Register for a new account

    1. If you do not already have an UpToDate account, click “Register” under Complete your registration for a new account.
    2. This will take you to the UpToDate Registration form. Fill out all fields, including an email that is regularly checked and a username and password.
    3. You will be asked to submit a verification code, sent to the email address on the registration form. Click “Send Verification code”, then retrieve the code from your email and enter it in the verification code fields, and click “Submit”.

    Merge your account

    1. If you have an existing account and want to merge your new account, please select “Merge Accounts” under Merge your new account with an existing account. This will ensure your existing CME credits are maintained in your new account.
    2. You will be prompted to enter your existing UpToDate Username and Password. Once entered, click “Continue”. You will receive confirmation in UpToDate that the merge was successful.

    Your registration process is now complete, and you'll receive a welcome email with instructions on downloading the mobile app. You will also receive a biweekly clinical newsletter with important updates from our editorial team.

    How to register on www.uptodate.com

    If your organization requires access to UpToDate through a security agent, please contact your administrator for further assistance or details.

    Visit www.uptodate.com/online while connected to your organization’s network.

    1. If you don’t have an existing username and password, please click the “Register” link in the upper right navigation to go to the Registration page. If you already have an existing username and password, click “Sign In” and enter your credentials.
    2. Once you are on the registration page, you will have two options: Complete your registration for a new account or Merge your new account with an existing account.

    Register for a new account

    1. If you do not already have an UpToDate account, click “Register” under Complete your registration for a new account.
    2. This will take you to the UpToDate Registration form. Fill out all fields, including an email that is regularly checked and a username and password.
    3. You will be asked to submit a verification code, sent to the email address on the registration form. Click “Send Verification code”, then retrieve the code from your email and enter it in the verification code fields, and click “Submit”.

    To maintain access to UpToDate, please make sure you log into UpToDate at least once every 90 days from your organization's network.

    How to register via Single Sign-On (SSO)

    Registration via Single Sign-On (SSO) is a one-time process and you will be automatically signed into UpToDate and identified moving forward when you access UpToDate through this method.

    Follow these instructions to access UpToDate via SSO

    1. Access UpToDate by visiting www.uptodate.com/login
    2. Enter your email address that is associated with your organization. Click continue. You will then be prompted to enter your SSO credentials.
    3. You will be prompted to select one of two options: Complete your registration for a new account or Merge your new account with an existing account.
      1. Register for a new account
      1. If you do not already have an UpToDate account, click “Register” under Complete your registration for a new account.
      2. This will take you to the UpToDate Registration form. Complete all fields and click “Submit”.

      1. If you have an existing account and want to merge your new account, please select “Merge Accounts” under Merge your new account with an existing account. This will ensure your existing CME credits are maintained in your new account.

    If your hospital has invested in UpToDate, you can now get immediate access to UpToDate whenever and wherever you need it.

    Depending on your organization's UpToDate license, you may register by invitation only, or you may have the ability to self-register. Check with your organization's administrator for more information.

    How to register via invitation

    Visit www.uptodate.com/online while connected to your organization’s network.

    1. You will receive an exclusive email invitation to register. The email will contain a link to the registration page, valid for 30 days.
    2. The registration link will bring you to the Registration page. You will have two options: Complete your registration for a new account or Merge your new account with an existing account.
    3. If you do not already have an UpToDate account, click “Register” under Complete your registration for a new account.
    4. On the registration portion of the page, your first name, last name, and email address will be pre-loaded based upon the information the administrator provided.
    5. If you have an existing account and want to merge your new account, please select “Merge Accounts” under Merge your new account with an existing account.
    6. You will be prompted to enter your existing UpToDate Username and Password. Once entered, click “Continue”. You will receive confirmation in UpToDate that the merge was successful.

    How to self-register

    Visit www.uptodate.com/online while connected to your organization’s network.

    1. If you don’t have an existing username and password, please click the “Register” button in the top navigation. If you already have an existing username and password, click “Sign In” and enter your credentials.
    2. Once you are on the registration page, you will have two options: Complete your registration for a new account or Merge your new account with an existing account.

Maintain access

Easily maintain access to and manage your UpToDate account. Learn how to view and edit your devices, contact information, and sign in information. Sign in to your UpToDate account every 90 days from your organization to continue to earn CME credits and to maintain uninterrupted access to remote and mobile app access.

  • How to sign in to maintain access

    To earn CME credit whenever you research new topics in UpToDate, be sure to sign in. Click the sign in button in the top right of the screen and enter your UpToDate credentials.

    Your name and CME tally will now appear in the top right of the screen.

    Your account needs to be re-verified with your subscribing organization every 90 days, which you can do by simply signing in from your hospital or clinic's network. Contact your help desk or UpToDate customer service with any questions. Signing in once every 90 days will ensure uninterrupted mobile app access, CME access, and personalized account features.

UpToDate Mobile App

To research clinical questions on-the-go, download the UpToDate mobile app. Registered users and individual subscribers can install the mobile app on up to two devices. The UpToDate app is available in most countries.

iOS® users: The UpToDate Mobile App for iOS works with any iPhone® or iPad® running the latest two versions of iOS.

Android™ users: The UpToDate Mobile App for Android works with Android devices running the latest two versions of Android OS that have at least 50 MB of free phone memory. SD card installation is supported.

To get started, visit the device app store, search for UpToDate, and download the app.

  • How to sign into the Mobile App

    Sign in using existing UpToDate credentials. The app will complete a one-time startup process. This may take a few minutes. Credentials will be saved going forward for uninterrupted mobile app access.

  • How to find clinical answers in the Mobile App

    Once accepting the end user license agreement terms, the mobile app home screen will appear.

    • Conduct a search by typing the search term in the search box. Upon typing a search term, UpToDate will provide suggestions for common searches. Select the relevant search term.

    • Or, tap the microphone icon to conduct a search using voice (the microphone will need to be enabled on the UpToDate app to use this feature). Using voice search will go directly to the topic search results page.

    • Select the topic of interest or use the filters at the top to narrow a search.

    • Similar to the desktop view, scroll through the outline to browse the complete table of contents.

    Note the bottom toolbar to:

    1. Toggle between the outline and the full topic
    2. Find a keyword within a topic
    3. Bookmark a topic
    4. Rate a topic
    5. Adjust the text size, share the topic, send content feedback, and print

  • How to navigate the Mobile App

    Use the hamburger menu in the top right to return to the home screen at any time and for quick access to drug interactions, calculators, CME, history and bookmarks, and Settings.

    • Contents: An index of Contents, including Practice Changing Updates (link to end user academy page), What’s New topics (link to end user academy page), Calculators, Authors and Editors by Specialty, and Topics by Specialty.
    • Calculators: Access UpToDate's medical calculators and view them alphabetically or by specialty. To get your answers even faster, the three calculators used most often are displayed in the History & Bookmarks section. Learn more
    • Drug Interactions: In-depth analysis of drug-drug, herb-drug and herb-herb interactions. Learn more 
    • UpToDate Pathways: Interactive guides that are unique to each patient, resulting in a specific care recommendation. Only available to users at organizations licensing UpToDate Advanced™. Learn more
    • History & Bookmarks: Revisit previously viewed topics, view most visited topics, and view bookmarked topics
    • CME/MOC/State: Earn and redeem CME/CE/CPD right on mobile. See additional information below.
    • Settings: Access personalization options, including Search in Your Own Language, adjust text size, and Full Screen Reading.
    • Offline Content: Available to subscribing organizations. See additional information below.
    • Help: Access how-to-guides and resources on how to access and use UpToDate.
    • Send App Feedback: Provide feedback and send it directly to UpToDate.
    • Log Out: Log out of the UpToDate app.

  • How to earn and redeem CME/MOC on mobile

    As you use UpToDate, you earn CME or CE credits. Your credits are displayed on the home screen in the top left hand corner. To review and redeem CME, click the credit count in the top left or use the hamburger menu and select CME/MOC/State.

  • How to use UpToDate MobileComplete™ (Offline Content)

    When you need answers but do not have consistent access to a Wi-Fi or network connection, UpToDate MobileComplete lets you continue your work without interruption. Please check with your organization to see if it provides this mobile option.

    Visit the hamburger menu in the top right navigation and tap Offline Content – Set Up. Select the content you wish to have downloaded to the device. A check mark will appear when the download is complete.
