Estimating kidney function for the purposes of drug dosing is an essential role of the pharmacist.  However, the equations used in pharmacokinetic studies and by front-line clinicians are evolving. Currently, there are several different kidney function estimating equations available for drug dosing, and each has its benefits and drawbacks.
