George Dessing still loves his job, and that’s an achievement after 23 years at Wolters Kluwer. This young veteran has climbed the ladder to his current position as the Executive Vice President Treasury and Risk. In a special Treasury Recruitment podcast, George talks about his experiences and his approach in leading and expanding his team.
“If you want to lead a successful team, I think it's crucial for a treasurer to be prompt. You need to stay ahead of the curve. If you wait until you need the money, you're probably too late. Interact with your internal disciplines like investor relations, communications, tax, and auditors. But you also need to network in treasury land, with other corporates. That's how you'll get your new ideas. Lastly, you need to be a team player and be open-minded. If you're only thinking from a treasury perspective, you're probably too narrow-sided.”
Like his father always said to him: “Whatever you do, it doesn't really matter. As long as you do it well or stay on top of it.” That was his dad’s lesson, and today is his guiding principle in his work as treasurer.
