We wanted to evolve to a more active learning model that bridges the gap between clinical practice and the classroom setting. Lippincott’s integrated resources keep things manageable for our students while engaging them and making them think. What I love about vSim is that students truly have to use their judgment to decide the next steps, putting together what they’ve learned in CoursePoint+, in DocuCare, in PrepU. vSim is very, very good at teaching that analytical reasoning and helping them build their clinical judgment skills. Using the Lippincott suite, our NCLEX pass rates rose from 75% to 95.5% as of 2017. And we’re giving students what they need to face real-world practice.

Even before Covid, we were losing clinical sites for our students and competing with all the other nearby nursing programs for space. When Covid hit, we had to do something — fast. Within three weeks, we had rolled out CoursePoint+ and vSim. The integration goes far beyond just a textbook. Those multiple ways of learning really make the material stick for our students.
When you’re learning in a virtual environment, it’s really important to keep the personal connection between the faculty member and the students. Covid-19 really demonstrated how important that is. Through the pandemic, we learned how to use Wolters Kluwer products in ways we just hadn’t considered before so we could have that personal experience. With vSim, for example, we had the students have an individual experience with the product. Still, we could then bring students back together to have a rich discussion. In this way, we could get feedback and stimulate critical thinking even though students aren't hands-on in the hospital. We really improved our debriefs significantly while making the usage of the product uniquely our own.
Moving to a concept-based curriculum is really the only way to effectively teach students the material they need for the job and to equip them with the critical thinking and collaboration skills they will need to deliver the best patient care.
Lippincott® DocuCare has improved our students’ charting performance as well as critical thinking, and makes them more prepared for practice after graduation. As a teacher, it lets me provide immediate feedback to students, and helps them develop clinical reasoning while influencing their ability to perform clinical skills.

Our Accelerated BSN (ABSN) program is a 15-month program designed for students who already have a degree. We knew all the textbooks needed to be online, and we needed to give our students access to clinical resources. CoursePoint+ and vSim were our best option. We love everything about it — all the resources are great. The students really get into the virtual simulations. They’re so good for teaching critical thinking, and lead to such rich conversations — clearly, the students are learning.
