Wolters Kluwer Acquires Professional Publishing Unit of Harcourt

Wolters Kluwer said today that it has acquired the professional tax, accounting and relatedproducts of Harcourt, Inc.'s Professional Publishing unit, San Diego (USA). The products willbecome part of Aspen Publishers, Gaithersburg, Md., a member of Wolters Kluwer Legal, Tax& Business North America. The product line had 1999 revenues of approximately EUR 7million.

In addition, Wolters Kluwer said it has sold its one-third interest in MD Consult, St. Louis(USA), to Harcourt, in order to focus its resources on subscription based electronic informationservices through Ovid Technologies, New York. Ovid Technologies (www.Ovid.com), part of Wolters Kluwer International Health & Science, has acknowledged leadership in the healthand science electronic information market. As part of the agreement, Ovid will gain electronicaccess to key clinical publications and information published by Harcourt.

The agreement with Harcourt is in line with Wolters Kluwer's policy to strengthen its position inlegal, tax & business and international health and science areas.
